I enjoyed seeing my father getting a "brain-freeze" and my mother explaining to me what "Halo- Halo" meaning "to mix". The Filipino dessert has kaong (sweet palm fruit), macapuno (silky coconut), langka (jackfruit), munggo (mung beans), saba (banana-like plantain), ube (purple yam), mais (corn), nata de coco (coconut gelatin), pinipig (dried rice, pounded), sago (pearls similar to boba) Topped off with shaved ice, evaporated milk and a scoop of ice cream. Make sure you mix it and trying not to spill will mixing takes some practice! Mmm sooo good on a summer day in the valley.
